Obituary for Mary Theresa Bishop (Ayotte)
East Millinocket and Holden - M. Theresa Bishop, 90, surrounded by the ones who loved her, left us
on Thursday, December 14, 2017, at her daughter’s home after a long battle with cancer.
Theresa was born in Millinocket on December 3, 1927, the daughter of Gertrude and Joseph Ayotte. After graduating from Stearns High School, she and friend Eva traveled to New York City and became nannies. After returning home Theresa worked at Emerson's Pharmacy in Millinocket.
Theresa met the love of her life, Walter Leo Bishop, and married him on July 17, 1951. Together they raised (in mom's words) four beautiful children. Theresa was a loving wife, mother and nana. Her family always had delicious cooked meals in a warm loving home. After her children were grown, Theresa took up quilting in addition to her knitting. She made beautiful quilts for her children and grandchildren to be cherished forever.
Theresa loved to play cards and in her later years played with her friends at the East Millinocket Town Hall on Mondays, and on Wednesdays & Saturdays at her home. She missed her sister-in-law, Madeline Bishop, and her friend, Betty Goddard, but always found other friends to play cards with at her house (you girls know who you are...). The one thing that would keep mom from playing cards was spending time with her children, she enjoyed
our little gatherings. Mom was always ready to laugh and enjoyed a good joke. Mom also enjoyed her regular visits from Deacon Dan and looked forward to Frank’s monthly meals at the town hall with cards to follow.
The last couple of winters, Theresa moved in with her daughter Diane and husband Tom in Holden, and she has missed those card playing friends. Theresa and her family would like to thank the Community Health and Counseling hospice workers who gave their love and care, especially Amy, Angie, Debbie, and Ashley.
Theresa was predeceased by her brothers Norman and Herman and by the love of her life, Leo Bishop, who passed on April 1, 1996. She is survived by those who loved her and will miss her dearly, her daughter Mary and husband Peter Swartz of Farmingdale, Maine, grandson Michael Swartz of
East Providence, Rhode Island, granddaughter Emily Swartz of Plymouth, Massachusetts, great granddaughters Aronah Swartz and Lila Swartz of Stamford, Connecticut; daughter Barbara and husband Pierre Letarte of Eddington, Maine, grandson Matthew Preble of Eddington, Maine; son John and wife Kathy Bishop of South Twin Lake, Maine, granddaughter Katie Bishop of Saco, Maine, grandson Nick Bishop of Windham, Maine and his fiance, Sasha Kean; daughter Diane and husband Tom Copeland of Holden, Maine, granddaughter Theresa Copeland of Windham, Maine; Sister Verna and husband Bob Greeley of Auburn, Maine, and several nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to visit with the family 10-11 A.M. Monday, January 8 at the Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack Street, Millinocket, where funeral services will be held beginning at 11 A.M., officiated by Deacon Danny Watson. Spring interment will be at the East Millinocket Cemetery.
