As a member of the USO during World War II in New York, she met Bryant Whirty, then serving in the United States Navy, and married him in 1944. A devoted wife and mother, Jean lived with her family in Hicksville, N.Y., where she was employed at the W.T. Grant store in Plainview, N.Y. Upon Bryant’s retirement from Consolidated Edison, they moved to Millinocket in the early 1990’s, where she was involved in local bingo groups and continued to pursue her love of bowling. Jean was also a lifelong member of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary. Jean’s memory will be honored Monday, June 5, at 1:30 at the family plot in the Millinocket Cemetery.
